Our children (age 6, 9) and my husband tried the surfing lesson here. My 6 year old had a private lesson with Noa, and my husband and a 9 year old had a semi private lesson with Kekoa. They had an amazing time! It was an absolute first time for our daughters to try surfing but the beach was very shallow and they were not scared. The teachers were so engaging and encouraging! Noa would clap for her every time she was able to stand on the board, and Kekoa was showing her really cool moves to keep it fun! Both of our kids said it was the best part of their Maui trip!! The professional photos they took for us were great quality also!

OHMYGOSH. If you're dying to try surfing, this is the place to go to. The instructor was awesome. I'm 63 and my sister is 65 and we both got up on the board and it was soooooo fun. We had some experienced surfers with us, too, and they also liked their instructor helping them get better!!! You will love this place. You will love these people. I'd give them 10 stars if I could!!!

We had a great time learning to surf with Maui Wave Riders. Eddie was our instructor and he was so easy-going and did great tailoring the experience to us - ready to teach us new things as we got the fundamentals down. Most importantly he made sure we were having fun, and even gave us additional recommendations for things to do, places to eat, and more in the area. Highly recommend this - was our favorite thing we did during our week long vacation on Big Island and Maui.

Our son (14) wanted to learn to surf, so we booked him a two-hour private lesson. He was absolutely thrilled because he was able to ride his first wave after just a short time and, after two hours, he was already able to pick and ride waves on his own without any help.
My wife and I (both over 50) then decided that we wanted to give it a try too, so we booked a two-hour private lesson. Ole, our surf instructor, explained everything to us really well on land and then in the water. We were also able to ride our first waves after just a short time and had a lot of fun.

Maui Wave Riders semi-private lessons were a fantastic experience!
The instructor, Noah, had my boys standing the riding the waves within the first few minutes (less than 5 min!) in the water. Was very impressive.
7:30 am start also helps, as many other programs start at 8, so having that first half hour to ourselves was great to start out to have plenty of room.
They stay in fairly shallow water, so very safe for 7 & 9 yo, and perfect conditions to learn to catch waves.
I, unfortunately, sprained my ankle earlier on the trip, and could not participate. Even so, MWV were very accommodating. When we are on Maui next time, I will definitely be back to do my lesson too.
Also with the lesson, board rental same day is included, to get more practice in.
