I immediately felt comfortable and at ease with him and your company. He gave me honest advice and all of my options. He was able to immediately schedule all of what I need done for tomorrow. This morning I had an idea that I needed a new toilet in my rental unit on Maui and itโs 1 oโclock and I have a new toilet. Fairly miraculous Iโd say. Marcos got here told me my options and went and got a toilet and put it in and the day is still ahead of me. Time to go to the beachโฆ

Had great service from Steveโs. Had gone to Loweโs and Home Depot and it was a total waste of time. Called Steveโs. Within a few hours the tech was at our house, checked what we had gave us quotes for replacement. Next morning he was here and did a beautiful replacement. Quick, clean, efficient nice guy, called me by name. So bypass l and h and go to Steveโs.

Steveโs prices are outrageously high. ย If you are considering them, I strongly suggest you get another bid or two.
Hereโs the backstory.ย I called Steveโs because our tenant reported a sewage backup in her ohana. I was off-island at the time (and Steveโs knew it because they had to coordinate with my tenant for access.) Steveโs said they could come the next day to run a camera scope down the line, which was encouraging. They reported that the scope showed tree roots had invaded the sewer pipe and that the pipe would need to be excavated and replaced. The charge for the camera scope was $471.20.
The next day they called with a repair bid in the amount of $23,125.65. The written bid, which followed, described the proposed work as โexcavate [a 40โ] trench to a maximum depth of 24โ to lay a new [40โ] sewer yard line of DWV piping with 4 inch PVC/ABS. Includes up to two (2) fittings.โ
Having been around construction my entire adult life, I knew Steveโs proposal was a total rip-off. When I said so, the Steveโs representative immediately backed off and offered me a 10% discount. When I responded that this made the price only slightly less crazy, they then offered to let me negotiate a better price with a manager.
I donโt know what this tells you, but It tells me that Steveโs throws out an extremely high bid to see what will stick and then negotiates, if necessary, to get the job. And, perhaps they factored in that I was in a vulnerable position, being off island with a tenant complaining of a habitability issue.
After spending time on the phone with friends in the construction industry, I ended up calling what the Google says is likely the largest plumbing company on Maui. I will call this company โCompany A.โ Youโve seen their vans.
Company A charged $344 to camera scope the line, more than 25% less than Steveโs. A significant difference, but not nearly as significant as the price disparity for doing the real work.
Company Aโs proposal stated that only 25โ (rather than 40โ) of pipe needed to be excavated and replaced at a total cost of $5,482.72. That's right, Steveโs bid was more than FOUR TIMES HIGHER than Company Aโs!!
Even if you were to adjust the prices for the difference in scope of work โ 25โ vs. 40โ in length (or run) โ Steveโs bid would still be almost three times higher than Company Aโs. And, the difference in scope of work also reflects poorly on Steveโs.
I would note that Company A performed the work on time and at the quoted price โ zero surprises.
I hate to think how many unsuspecting customers have paid Steveโs prices because they lacked the time or experience to question their prices.

I had an outdoor water pipe burst and spray water everywhere, so I contacted Steveโs Plumbing. Josiah Acang responded quickly and arrived at my home in no time. He immediately assessed the situation, capped the outdoor water line, and stopped the leak efficiently.
Josiah was extremely friendly, professional, and courteous, and he worked quicklyโeverything was completed in less than five minutes. I was especially impressed that he chose not to charge me for the service.
Outstanding service all around. I will definitely be using Steveโs Plumbing again for all of my plumbing needs.
