We had Mike as our instructor and he was amazing. Pretty cool dude, too, as we hung out and talked a bit afterwards. He was so patient with our family and worked with us to make sure myself, my wife, and our kids got up and caught some waves (me and my daughter needed a little more help than my wife and son and he assured us we’d all be surfing…he was right!).
Pros:

- Easy to book a session and conveniently located
- Photographer in the water to grab some pics of the family
- A variety of surf boards to accommodate everyone’s skill level (or lack thereof)
- Booties and rash guards provided if you don’t have any
- Discounts on board rentals if you want to come back and surf on your own

My wife, her family, and I had an excellent lesson from Ivan. He is knowledgeable, patient, and easy to get along with. The setting of our lesson was great for beginners. I would absolutely return for a future lesson!

This was my first time surfing and it was really fun. My instructor, J, was really nice and funny, but told you what you needed to know. He helped me get the hang of it really fast. Overall, great experience, I highly recommend it!

My wife and I couldn’t have had a better time. Neither of us had surfed before but Brooks got us surfing in no time. He was funny and nice as could be. He gave us perfect instructions on how to stay safe and we ended up being able to catch waves almost the entire time with his help. Brooks was a super patient instructor. Would definitely come back here, the rest of the staff was great as well. Definitely come try this out. They even had a professional photographer taking pictures of everyone.

The best time at my first ever surf lesson!! The whole crew at Surf Shack Maui were so kind, welcoming and helpful. I had a group lesson with Mike and Santi. They were clearly very experienced in teaching and able to meet each student where they were at. I struggled with remembering all the steps. Mike helped me work backwards to gain confidence on waves, starting with me halfway up on the board and then eventually independently paddling and catching waves. I had a minor mix up with bookings which everyone helped to seamlessly fix. I even received a call from the owner confirming the fix which really shows how much they care. The photographer Kylee is amazing! My grandparents were overjoyed when I sent them the photos from my surf experience. I had so much fun! Check them out!!
