My wife and I had a 90 minute private lesson with Zack himself today at Ukumehame beach. He was patient, observant and gave helpful feedback. My wife was up and riding consistently by her second try. We will only use Zack moving forward and will be back later this year (we hope) for another lesson!

Booked a 1-on-1 the day prior and their communication is excellent. I met Travis for some surfing in a nice location and felt the instruction was good, but not very detailed or specific enough. He's a nice guy and has a positive attitude- which is always a plus and made for a relaxed morning surf. One minor gripe: after an hour in the water with not a ton of wave action, he said the lesson was over. I had expected the "90min lesson" to begin when we got to the water and he started instructing, but it began when we met in the parking lot and he started prepping the boards. I would have enjoyed a full 90min of his guidance, so I recommend arriving early and working with your guide to ensure you get the instruction you desire. Have fun- these guys certainly know the waters well.

Had a great 1-1 lesson with Zach! He was flexible about rescheduling due to bad wind conditions two days in a row. I’ve been surfing for the past few years and wanted to take my skills to the next level, Zach was able to give me some much needed pointers and help me feel more confident. Will be taking another lesson with him in the future.

Wife and I wanted to learn the basics and simply *hoped* to actually stand up and surf for a while. Well, Zach made that happen and so much more. We were comfortable out on the water, felt safe the entire time, and appreciated the brevity of the on shore portion of the instructions— I learn by doing. Not only did he help us truly learn to surf and have a ball doing it, but he was great fun to talk to while sitting on the boards waiting for the right wave (read: catching our breath— this was a workout). Would 100% do it again!

This was my second time taking surf lessons and first for my son. Zack’s teaching style, relaxed but encouraging approach, and exceptional knowledge of the sport/beach/water at Ukumehame beach contributed to our surfing success. My 8yo son and I were able to stand up and ride every wave Zack picked for us.
I had previously taken lessons in the Kihei area, but the waves and clearness of the water at ukumehame beach are truly the best for beginner surf lessons. We also saw multiple turtles near us while riding and paddling out!
With so many options available, I highly recommend Zack Howard for anyone looking for surf lessons while in Maui.
